Airport construction planning

Planning and environmental approvals have been achieved through the Environmental Impact  Statement and the Airport Plan, both finalised in 2016.

A range of strict environmental conditions has been placed on the airport's development, which Western Sydney Airport must adhere to in delivering the project. The project will be subject to some further approvals, including under the Environment Protection and Biodiversity Conservation Act 1999 for the flight path design.
Western Sydney Airport will deliver the airport in accordance with regulatory requirements. The Department of Infrastructure and Regional Development is the regulator of the Western Sydney International project and is also responsible for:

  • Flight path design
  • Forum on Western Sydney Airport (FOWSA)
  • Planning rail with New South Wales
  • Development approval
  • Biodiversity conservation through offsets
