The contract for the construction of Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport terminal and speciality services was awarded to Multiplex Construction Pty Ltd (MPX) in June 2021.

Multiplex will deliver the main airport terminal, apron and airport facilities to accommodate up to 10 million passengers per year. It will design and construct all works within the terminal precinct including the terminal building, plaza, connections to the Metro rail station, bus station, taxi ranks, car parks, roads, footpaths and external ancillary buildings and services.

Set to open in late 2026, the Western Sydney International Airport will be a full-service airport catering for domestic and international passengers as well as air cargo services and be a driver jobs and economic growth for the region.

Western Sydney Airport and it's contractors are committed to keeping the community and other stakeholders informed about the terminal construction project and it's progress. What's happening?


June - August 2022


Over the past few months, the following progress has been achieved:

  • 100% of the piling in the terminal has been completed

  • The basement concrete slab (slab on ground) commenced in March and is 40% complete to date 

  • Three out of four Jump Forms are now installed, with the fourth one due to be complete in mid-June

  • The first slab-on ground for the western pier has been poured 

  • The basement retaining wall in the south and the western pre-cast retaining walls are 50% complete

  • The in-ground services in the Apron have commenced 

  • Works on the aviation fuel reticulation line commenced in March, with 800m of pipe welded and 5 pits constructed to date 


Over the next few months, construction activities will include:

  • Completion of in-ground services for the terminal and loading dock

  • Commencement of the first suspended slab (Level 00 - Arrivals Level)

  • Commencement of the second suspended slab (Level 2 - Departure Level)

  • Ongoing concrete pours for the western pier (international) slabs 

  • Commencement of on-site batch plant operations 

  • Removal of form work in the basement to enable preparations for the installation of the baggage handling system later in the year

  • Backfill of the southern portion of the terminal

Standard work hours:

  • Monday to Friday: 7am - 6pm
  • Saturday: 8am - 1pm


Out of hours (OOH) work: We will consult and notify impacted residents prior to working outside of standard construction hours.
