Keen for a holiday? Flying with WSI will get you on your way faster!

Keen for a holiday? If you’re dreaming of a post-lockdown trip to far-away destinations, you’ll be happy to read that the innovative design of WSI’s airfield will reduce taxi times and prevent delays on the tarmac, which means that as soon as you board the plane, you’ll be one step closer to a cocktail in hand on a Phuket beach, a scuba dive in the Maldives or a celebrity spotting tour in LA.

As we are sure you know by now, Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport will welcome its first passengers in late 2026. In the meantime, we’re working hard to build a game changing passenger terminal and a futuristic airfield that will help planes get safely in the air or to the gates faster!

To put it even more simply, passengers and airlines will love using Western Sydney International because the experience we deliver will be seamless, safe and reliable from start to finish.

Need another reason why we are confident we will get you on your way faster?  Western Sydney International will be the only airport in Sydney equipped with a modern CAT III-B instrument landing system.

For all the non-aviation readers out there, this means that Western Sydney International will continue operating safely in foggy conditions that currently shut down Sydney’s skies. This means less delays, less frustration and more time looking out a plane window heading to your destination!

Check out this video that shows how effective the CAT III-B instrument landing system is at safely flying in fog.

Still not convinced? You'll be pleased to know that our runway is also capable of handling the full range of commercial aircraft, including the new generation of ultra-long-haul airliners like the A350-1000 and Boeing 777X, and is future ready for emerging technology such as electric aircraft.

Construction of the 3.7-kilometre runway and rapid-exit taxiways will begin in 2022 and is expected to create around 1,200 direct jobs and support many more indirect jobs through flow on benefits to suppliers, subcontractors and the local economy.
